A little more about Amantea
It is a privileged land, from the landscape point of view, because from the beach or the historic center, one can admire a beautiful sunset, with even some of the Aeolian Islands in the background (the Stromboli volcano can be seen frequently, which is a very popular opportunity among photography fans).
The territory is “divided” into two zones
THE LOWER PART, which is the most modern, developed in the last century, and is the residential and commercial area: the majority of the inhabitants reside there, and there are several shops (the avenues Margherita and Vittorio Emanuelle II are the shopping centers). You can enjoy long walks to stroll along the beautiful seaside (2 km route).
THE UPPER PART, which is connected to downtown by several roads and streets, is a large historic center (mostly buildings from the 1600s, 1700s, 1800s …) characterized by churches, palaces, small houses of the old sailors and narrow alleys.

1) Discover Amantea, the wonderful town in Calabria! VISIT THE RUINS OF THE CASTLE AND THE FORTIFICATIONS
The ruins of a castle and fortifications from the early medieval period (around the 10-12th century), including a powerful tower, over the village, and today it is restricted to those who have difficulty in moving, while there are several offers for excursions from adventure (important to pay close attention). The rocky walls that “rule” the old village were, some centuries ago, a kind of balcony with a view to the sea, as the water covered the entire area currently occupied by the modern area.

The routes that can be organized here are many and varied. You can take a “trip” through the architectural heart of the old city. It is admirable, for example, the Palazzo delle Clarisse, now famous for hosting weddings, receptions and cultural gatherings.

You can follow the traces of the humble life of the sailors of a bygone era through the streets and squares of old neighborhoods like Catocastro. You can visit the majestic natural landscape, perhaps unique, like the Grotta, a public garden, which is a peaceful place to relax and have a good read.

You can take a ride on the boat and take a dip in the EX Riserva Marina WWF degli SCOGLI DI ISCA, much appreciated by those who like diving with a mask and tube.

5) Discover Amantea, the wonderful town in Calabria! VISIT THE CHURCH OF SAN BERNARDINO DI SIENA
Among the most important religious buildings are the Church and Convent of San Bernardino di Siena (St Bernardine of Siena), where Franciscan monks linked to the Saint of Assisi live (San Bernardino was in the 15th century among the leaders of the “Osservanti”, one of several Franciscan groups). Its construction probably dates from the 15th century and preserves some fine ceramic sculptures. On the facade of the Church, centuries ago, there were ceramic bowls (plates) to form a cross – a probable donation from Catalan sailors who made a stopover in Amantea. These are products of Spanish-Moorish art, of Spanish origin, after the Muslim domination
