Interesting is the particular structure of its old town with its many narrow streets that open to Squares and corners of the area where they enclose Norman Castle, in which you can admire the paintings of the artist Salvatore Fiume, Abbey of Fonte Laurato, the many noble palaces, the main church of San Michele and the Church of Addolorata. What Are The Best Wineries In Calabria?

Palaces, beauty and also the ruins of a Castle…

The most representative Palace is located in the heart of the old town: is the palace of Carelli – Pignatelli, of the sixteenth century. We have said that, among the beauties of the place, it is definitely worth mentioning the castle called ‘Palace of the Valley’, which was built in 1201 by Simone of Mamistra and was part of the transformation of a defense tower. In 1536 the castle was embellished in Fiumefreddo according to the aesthetic standards of the time and the walls of the village and its two towers were built and called Golette.

The ruins of the castle…

The ruins of the castle, built on the cliffs of the valley, look from the top to the whole village. Today, after a long restoration that lasted about ten years, the castle is finally revived in all its beauty and decorum of the past, thanks to the recovery of some underground rooms that will become a place of art exhibitions and museums. We can safely say that the Castle of the Valley is one of the most important and beautiful monuments of Calabria.

Counted among the most beautiful cities in Italy, Fiumefreddo is undoubtedly one of the historical marvels, scenic and cultural province of Cosenza. Another special feature is the scent of traditional and healthy Calabrian and Mediterranean dishes that come from the windows of the kitchens that are often found on the ground floor, overlooking the narrow streets of this wonderful village. The unforgettable smells bring to mind memories that could hardly be lived again without visiting these small villages. This county is known for its tradition in a Calabria unknown to many.
