The island of Capo Rizzuto is actually a long promontory located in the marine protected area of Capo Rizzuto. The name of the island could be derived from the Latin ‘asyla’, which means ‘safe place’; it may be a reference to the population that sought refuge from Turkish incursions, or to the Roman rural buildings called ‘insula’. It is an ideal destination for tourists who love untouched nature and wonders of art; here, also, there are several attractions to increase your holiday plans. In the center of Isola Capo Rizzuto, it is worth visiting the Cathedral of Roman origins, the remains of the feudal castle and the small church of San Marco, from the 16th century; the Demographic Civic Museum also deserves attention.

When you come to this wonderful place, a stop at one of the symbols of Isola di Capo Rizzuto, the Aragonese Castle,  in Le Castela, is a must see! This fortress occupies a very charming position, stands on an islet just in front of the coast and testifies to the ancient Aragonese domination that occurred in the 15th century.

When there is low tide, you can reach the castle by walking on a narrow strip of land that, at high tide, disappears to completely isolate the old building. It has recently been completely restored and, moreover, it has been repeatedly chosen as a location for filming various commercials, because this place amazing beauty. 1) How to get in Capo Rizzuto? BY PLANE

To reach Calabria, the fastest and most convenient way is by plane and the region has three airports: ‘Titto Minniti’ Airport, in the province of Reggio Calabria; the ‘Sant’Anna’ Airport, in Crotone and the  Lamezia Terme Airport

2) How to get in Capo Rizzuto? BY TRAIN

The railway line has numerous Intercity and Espresso trains connecting Calabria to the main cities in the north, both for the Tyrrhenian Sea and for the Ionian Sea.

3) How to get in Capo Rizzuto? BY CAR

From northern Italy, the A1 highway runs from Milan to Naples. The A30 highway connects Naples to Salerno, where you can take the A3 Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway, which runs through the entire province, from north to south.

IMPORTANT TO KNOW!

Remember that to drive in Italy it is MANDATORY to have the International Driving License, the famous IDP (International Driving Permit)The certificate is not issued in Italian, but it is accepted in English! The IDP lasts 180 days (it depends where you live) and is issued by the Traffic Department of your country (if you have the European Driver License, you don’t need to worry about it!).
